"Western Star is the sixth album from bush balladeer PETE SMITH, and it is easy to say it is his best to date. With the meticulous production of LBS Music’s LINDSAY BUTLER to colour Pete’s fine songwriting skills along with a smattering of outstanding classic bush tales, the album is a Bush Ballad country fan’s dream. Opening – and title – track Western Star is a first-rate trucker’s track, but the call of the beckoning star will also find empathy with travellers from gypsies to grey nomads. My Old Outback Home calls the traveller back home. Pete brings the unique characters of the outback alive with Dusty Old Time Ringer; an excellently crafted classic style ballad with a yodel. Where The Thompson River Flows is another excellent track with the distinctive time-honoured flavour that is our country heritage. Pete Smith is what is the best of what makes our traditional Australian country music unique."

Gold Medallion Finalist for 2010 NSW Bush Balladeer Of The Year
Gold Medallion Awards are designed to reflect radio activity of music played on radio stations across Australia for the previous year. Pete is certainly in good company with Tom Maxwell and Greg Bain as the other finalists in the section. To achieve a finalist position in this highly contested section is a great achievement by all finalists and good luck to all three.
